Perhaps you know someone who has experienced a troubled relationship or heard of some high-profile domestic violence cases in the news. To better understand this all too frequent problem, join us for an eye-opening Domestic Violence Forum at 12 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 in Bert Walker Hall, Community Rooms 144 & 145.
Learn more about what domestic violence is, its prevalence today, steps for a victim to take, and steps to recovery. This forum will feature a panel discussion with:
· George Lyons (Defense Attorney, George D. Lyons & Associates) |
· Kelsey Guernsey (Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney) |
· Daisha Cooper (Surviving Victim) |
· Sarah Sabin (Chief Clinical Officer at the Oasis Center) |
· Lt. Pete Postma (Jackson Police Department) |
Domestic or intimate partner violence (IPV) may include physical assault, battery, sexual assault, stalking and/or psychological aggression or other abusive behavior by one intimate partner over another. It affects more than 12 million people each year, according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. More than 41 percent of women and 26 percent of men have experienced IPV in their lifetime.
